 Drills from Coach Lindsay

  • Team throwing drill

    • Focus on accuracy, teamwork, and rhythm

    • 40ft apart, one side starts with the ball. A designated  pair is in charge of saying, “step… throw,” to ensure that everyone is throwing and catching the ball at the same time; this helps with rhythm. If everyone catches the ball, start your count. If not, the count goes back to zero. Start with a goal of 10 throws back and forth.

  • Working through ground/fly balls.

    • The key is to always keep your feet moving and your weight on your toes.

    • Ground Ball: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRTEsPf7/

    • Fly Ball: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRTEnpCA/ (In the video, her white glove should be where she is catching the ball, as opposed to fielding it.)

    • It is also important to get into a quick and powerful transition when moving to throw.

  • Hitting with your legs

    • Girls are going to get a great majority of their power from their legs. When breaking a swing down, you should always start from the ground up. Your back foot should be driving into the ground when starting your back hip turn. The energy being transferred from the ground will accelerate the back hip and leg turn, thus creating a more powerful swing.

  • Body on path of the pitch

    • Your belly button needs to stay parallel to the pitch that is being thrown.

    • RHH - For an outside pitch, the belly button will follow that pitch to the right side (2B/RF). If it goes towards the pitcher or even further to the left side (SS/3B) you will lose power and your barrel will lose some plate coverage.

    • RHH - For a middle to inside pitch the belly button should always end at the pitcher. If you are pulling your body further than that you risk losing power and plate coverage with your barrel.
